The Union Difference

July 29, 2022

The union difference can be seen when comparing a state with low union membership to states like Oregon, where unions are strong.

Click here to join ODFW Sub-Local 109/SEIU 503.

The cost is 1.7% of monthly salary + $2.75 per month to be a union member.  Some of the things dues are used for: Negotiating contracts requires research analysts, negotiators, union reps, and field staffers (SEIU503). Defending members and enforcing contracts requires money for legal help as well as grievance and arbitration expenses. Education and publications for union programs of all kinds (example ODFW Local 109 website). Strike, welfare, defense, and other worker funds. Office rents, travel, supplies, and administration.

Members determine the amount and structure of dues. Dues cannot be changed except by a majority vote of active membership and staff.

Some more ways to learn about why you should join, talk to a coworker who’s a member, contact a Steward and/or check out ODFW Local 109 website.
